Described as ‘The Little Paradise’ and situated at the southwestern limit of the Awash National Park, some 205 km east of Addis Ababa, Awash Falls Lodge sits overlooking the Awash River – a dazzling view that includes the river’s gorge and falls.
OVERVIEW
Hidden deep within the park’s acacia woodland, the lodge’s stated aim is to be ‘at harmony with nature’, an ambition it goes some way to achieving in the form of its collection of low lying rooms – Tukuls – built from natural materials.
FOOD AND SERVICE
Much of the lodge’s social activities are focused on the fully licensed bar and restaurant. It is here that guests are offered either local or international cuisine with the option of dining outside, either by the campfire or on the veranda.
All meals are followed by a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony, an enduring highlight for many guests.
ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation itself consists of numerous individual Tukuls. Simply decorated, each Tukul at Awash Falls Lodge has its own electricity point, shower and veranda. Tukuls are available in singles, doubles, twins or triples.
The largest sleeps up to 5 people and possesses westerly views across the gorge. The sunsets are a thing of wonder, so get comfortable, charge your camera, and enjoy the extraordinary sight.
ACTIVITIES
Often used as a stopover for travellers to Eastern Ethiopia, the lodge is also extremely popular with bird watchers and those wanting to experience the park’s wildlife close at hand.
To this end, the lodge’s guides are on hand to provide many different trekking routes, from climbing Mount Fentale to visiting the Palm Forest and hot springs. Boating and camel rides are also available.
